William Peale Paleen passed away peacefully on February 4, 2023, in Elkton, Maryland at the age of 91. Bill was born in Duluth, Minnesota to Lillian and Walter Paleen on December 7, 1931. He had a brother, Walter Paleen, and sister, Barbara Johnson. He was the beloved husband of Joyce Paleen for sixty-five years and the proud father of their three children, Ellen, Fred, and Meredith.

Bill was a 1949 graduate of Washington High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and a 1954 graduate of the University of Wisconsin where he received a degree in English and met his future wife, Joyce, a fellow Badger alumnus. Bill and Joyce were married in 1954 in Racine.

Upon graduation from UW, Bill was commissioned as a U.S army officer and stationed in Germany. When he returned from Germany, he resigned his commission and started work at the University of Wisconsin in the Department of Housing.

Bill and Joyce moved to Ithaca, New York in 1971 where he became Dean of Student Life at Cornell University. He and Joyce were active members of the Ithaca and Cornell communities.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Lillian and Walter, his brother Water, his sister Barbara, his wife Joyce, and his daughter Meredith.

Bill is survived by two of his three children, Ellen Aubel and Fred Paleen (Patti), five grandsons, Adam Aubel (Jessica), Bill Aubel (Meredith), Alex Aubel (Claire), Joe Paleen (Colleen), and Sam Paleen, eight great-grandchildren, and another one on the way.
