Age 89, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Foulk Manor North where he resided since August.Bill was born July 6, 1927 in Wilmington, DE, the son of William "Woody" McClafferty Jr. and Nellie T. McClafferty (Montague). He was a graduate of Salesianum School and graduated in 1945. He served on the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier during World War II.Bill founded McClafferty Printing Company with his father in 1947, located at 5th & Orange Streets. The business moved again to 8th & Windsor Streets from 1950-1969 and finally to its present address at 1600 N. Scott Street. Bill was past President of the Printing Industry of Delaware. He retired from printing in 1998.As an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Bill served as a Past Grand Knight, Past State Deputy and was honored for his many years working with the Breakfast of Champions for the missions.A lifetime member of St. Ann's Church, Bill was the first President of the Parish Council serving two terms. He also coached St. Ann's Girls Basketball for 12 years with much success. Along with his mother, Nellie, McClafferty Printing published the first Catholic Directory for the Diocese of Wilmington and the Parish Bulletin. He was a member of the Men of Malvern and Past President of the Serra Club of Wilmington.Bill is predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary T. (Adams) McClafferty and his son, Shawn McClafferty. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Heller (Jeffery), Lynn Konizer (Edward), his daughter-in-law, Marybeth McClafferty, six grandchildren, Melissa Marchiafava (Tim), Wendy Olsen (Jason), Kasia Jensen (Richard), Jodi Morley (Ed) Bryan McClafferty and Mathew McClafferty, and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Mary Bradley and Eileen Lynam, both of Wilmington.The family would like to thank the staff at Foulk Manor North for their excellent care of Bill.Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann's R.C. Church, Gilpin Avenue and Union Street, Wilmington, DE on Tuesday, October 25th at 11:30 AM. Visitation will be before Mass between 9:30 and 11 AM Mealey Funeral Home, 703 N. Broom Street, Wilmington on Tuesday morning. Entombment will be at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.
