Obituary

William J. Broomall Jr., age 78 of Wilmington, DE, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 8, 2024.

William was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Elizabeth J. (Montague) and William J. Broomall. He attended De La Warr Highschool and enlisted in the United States Navy where he served 4 years honorably. After the military, William went on to work in the communications industry for Rollins Cablevision, Bell Atlantic, and Fiberspec as a manager for many years.

William had many hobbies throughout his life. He was the longtime Scoutmaster of Troop 205 in Newark, DE. He enjoyed camping, fishing, wood working, listening to the Rolling Stones. He never missed a tour. Although, his main love in life was his wife Carol. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and attending the many activities of his grandchildren.

William is survived by his loving wife Carol Ann Broomall; his children and their spouses, William J. Broomall III and wife Mandi of Avondale, PA, Megan Broomall-Filliben and husband Joel of Newark; his grandchildren William J. Broomall IV, Sophie P. Broomall, Luke M. Filliben, and Brett R. Filliben; His siblings, Hugh Broomall and wife Christy of Newark and Elizabeth "Betty" Broomall of Dayton, OH; Bill will also be fondly remembered by many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A visitation will be held Friday, July 19, 2024 at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE from 10:00AM to 11:30AM followed by a service at 11:30AM. Burial will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, DE 19701, with military honors, on August 7, 2024, at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy P.O Box 807 Harpers Ferry, WV 25425-9988 or appalachiantrail.org in memory of William's name.
