Tyrrell
June 10, 1941 – May 13, 2023
William Edward Tyrrell, "Bill," age 81, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late Cecilia (Harrington) and James Tyrrell. He graduated from St. Elizabeth and Salesianum schools and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from University of Delaware. Bill began his career as a teacher in 1968 in Dover School District and then taught at Forwood, George Gray, and Burnett elementary schools before spending countless years at P. Aside from his work, you could find Bill at Longwood Gardens, the local ShopRite, or donating blood at the local blood bank. He cared deeply about animals and enjoyed visiting the zoo when visiting a new city. Bill was a devoted gardener and spent hours watching birds move into little homes he built for them.
Bill will be missed by his wife of 55 years, Suzanne (Evans) Tyrrell; his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Michael Hurwitz; his granddaughter, Laura Hurwitz; his sisters, Cecilia Watkins (Jack) and Mary Ann Stevenson (Jim Howard); his beloved cat, Hobo; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11 A.M. at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road Wilmington, DE 19808. Burial will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington, DE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Blood Bank of Delmarva.
