Hendricks
May 20, 1933 – December 23, 2022
William A. Hendricks, age 89, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 23, 2022.
William, "Bill" was born in Bryn Mawr, PA, son of the late Anne McGilligan and William E. Hendricks. William proudly served our nation in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After returning from the service, William spent his career as a fabricator welder until his retirement. William was a lifetime member of the Korean War Veterans Assoc. Chapter 2; was a Post Commander of VFW Post 3257 on 7th Ave in Wilmington; and honorably served both as a member of the Korean War Veterans Honor Guard and the Delaware State Honor Guard. He also was a member of the American Legion - Stahl Post 30, the Moose Lodge 847, the Newark Elks Lodge 2281, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 5892. In his free time, Bill enjoyed roller skating and was a member of Christiana Roller Skating Coffee Club. Additionally, he enjoyed singing karaoke, dancing, playing clarinet, tinkering in the basement, and spending time with family and friends.
William is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Kathleen A. (McDougall) Hendricks; his daughter, Carol (Chuck) Strock; his son, William J. Hendricks and his children, Brooke and Ryan Hendricks; stepdaughters, Katrina (Michael Jr.) Kilgallon and her children, Kelsey, Mick, and Maggie; Krista Stehman-Perez and her children, Justin (Rachel) Vogel and his son, Jackson; Kevin, and Katie and her children, Christopher and John Joseph; sisters, Barbara Gable, and Joan Ponte; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and close family friends all of whom were loved.
A visitation for William will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023, at the St. John the Beloved Roman Catholic Church, 907 Milltown Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where friends and family may call from 10:30-11:30 am, with a Mass following at 11:30 am. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in William's name to Korean War Veterans Assoc. Chapter 2 of Delaware to John Schroeder (Commander) 63 Kathy Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808.
