Wayne C.
Mccallister
October 16, 1959 – March 27, 2026
Wayne Calvin McCallister, age 66, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026.
Born in Wilmington, Wayne was the son of the late Harold and Eleanor (Waters) McCallister. He was a graduate of Delcastle Technical High School and went on to continue working with The DuPont Company, MBNA, Bank of America, and Winterthur. While he was dedicated to his work, his favorite job was his side business of cutting grasses—something he truly loved and took great pride in.
Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, who found his greatest joy in his family. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Amy McCallister, with whom he shared 41 wonderful years of marriage. He is also survived by his children: Monica (Keith) Ledwon, Ellen McCallister, Grace (Chris) Ramirez, and Jack McCallister. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Christian Ramirez, Harper and Jackson Ledwon, who brought endless laughter and happiness to his life. Wayne is also survived by his brother, Kenny (Brenda) McCallister, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Wayne and Amy were loyal parishioners of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church for over 30 years. In his free time, Wayne enjoyed relaxing at the Jersey shore, and celebrating life's special moments—birthdays, holidays, and Saturday dinners—with his family.
In 2019, Wayne was diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer's disease. Throughout his journey, he was surrounded by the unwavering love, laughter, and support of his family, who remained by his side every step of the way.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Maria D'Souza, as well as Kate and Barb of Compass Dementia Care, for their compassion and guidance. They also wish to thank the dedicated and loving staff of the third-floor memory care unit at Kentmere, who provided Wayne with exceptional care and made it feel like a second home. The family is forever grateful for the kindness shown to Wayne during his time there.
A visitation for Wayne will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 2503 Centerville Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wayne's memory to the Emmanuel Dining Room, 115 East 14th St, Wilmington, DE 19801.
