Obituary

Walter Albert Hafner, Jr. "Al", 90, of Newark passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.

Al was born in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late Walter Albert Hafner and Anna Eugenia Hafner. He served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Saratoga as a damage control man 3rd class. Al retired from the Baltimore Gas & Electric Co. after 34 years as a commercial service representative. He was a former member of Little Flower Church in Baltimore and St. Patrick's Church in Wilmington.

Al was predeceased by his wife, Anne (McCabe) Hafner in 2017; his son, Robert J. Hafner in 2022 and his siblings, Richard, Doris, Louise, Jeannie, John, Marianne, Amy Louise and Raymond.

He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Mike and Barbara Hafner of Newark; his grandchildren, Seth, Karianne and Sarah and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 10 to 11 am. A funeral service will begin at 11 am. Burial with military honors will follow at All Saint's Cemetery, Wilmington.
