Walter G. Chechila, age 81, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, October 7, 2022.

Walter was born in Chester, P.A., son of the late Esther (Griest) and Walter Chechila, and brother of the late, David B. Chechila. Walter graduated from A. I. DuPont High School and went on to work for Sun Oil Company and then served with the New Castle County Police as an officer for 20 years. After that he served the community at the Court of Common Pleas. Walter enjoyed airplanes, motorcycles, travel, his dogs, and spending time with his wife and family.

Walter is survived by his best friend and wife of 52 years, Barbara A. Chechila; his son, Michael DePrisco and his wife, Deborah; his daughter, Andrea Kingsbury; his nine grandchildren; his six great grandchildren and numerous close family and friends whom loved him.

A visitation for Walter will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where friends and family may call from 4-5:30 PM, with a memorial service following at 5:30 PM.  Burial will be private. The family is requesting that you wear masks.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Walter's name to Delaware Humane Association 701 A Street Wilmington, DE 19801.
