Vernon Austin Dennis Sr., age 88, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

Vernon was born in Cow Run, OH, son of the late Gladys McCauley and Wilbert Dennis. Vernon attended DeVry Technical Institute and served our nation honorably in the U.S Army during the Korean War. After returning from the service, Vernon worked as an Electrician for Chrysler until his retirement. Vernon also worked for Harvey and Hall Appliances in the beginning of his career. One of Vernon's passions was computers. He loved using them every day to read the Marietta Times News Paper from his hometown in Ohio and keeping in touch with his family. He enjoyed bird watching and following NASCAR, especially Richard Petty. Vernon was a daily regular at the Crossroads Restaurant, where every waiter and waitress knew both his name and his order as soon as he walked in. In his free time, Vernon loved spending time with his family and friends. Vernon was predeceased by his loving wife, Marjorie B. Dennis in 2015; and son, Darryl Dennis in 2018.

Vernon is survived by his son, Vernon "Vern" Dennis Jr.; granddaughter, Amy Miller; grandson, Jared Dennis, and his wife Erica; great grandchildren, Cameron, Sean, Alexis, Brooklyn, and Liam; brother, Wayne Dennis; sisters, Ruth Radabaugh and Dr. Thelma White; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends whom he all loved.

Funeral services and Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Vernon's name to the VFW.
