Vada Marie
Bradley (Nee Jugler)
November 15, 1929 – December 21, 2022
With great sadness, the Bradley family announces the passing of Vada Marie Bradley (nee Jugler) at the age of 93. Vada was a beloved and devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. Vada was born in Elkton Hospital, in Elkton, Maryland. She lived with her family on their dairy farm in Rising Sun, Maryland. Vada was the youngest of five children and the only girl.
A wife and mother that truly embodied the spirit of love and selflessness, her family was her singular, focused passion. Vada took care of her mother Mary in her home for over 10 years until Mary's death in 1984.
Vada is survived by her husband of over 71 years, Stanley J. Bradley, their children Christine Feldman (Robert), Carolyn Bradley (Steven Yeager), Stephen Bradley (Phyllis Muhlena), and John Bradley (Elisabeth Glackin), grandchildren Matthew Feldman, Nicholas Bradley, Tyler Bradley (Kelsey Visnansky) , great granddaughter, Ellianna Marie Bradley, brother in law Donald Bradley, sister in law Mildred Mealey, and many nieces and nephews.
Vada was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary Jugler, brothers Evert, Francis, Robert, and Raymond Jugler.
Being a member of the "Greatest Generation", Vada would always find time to donate her organizational, secretarial, and cooking skills, to whoever was in need. Vada was a constant volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Emmanuel Dining Room, Our Lady of Fatima Christmas Bazaar and June Fair, Stahl Post American Legion Post #30, William Penn Basketball Boosters, and countless other groups and organizations. Vada was also a member of the Howard Weston Senior Center and the New Castle Senior Center.
Vada was a devoted Catholic and would attend weekly Mass with Stan. They would attend daily Mass during the Lenten season. A major reason for purchasing their home in Wilmington Manor, New Castle, Delaware, was the close proximity of the Catholic Church, Our Lady of Fatima. Vada and Stan were founding members of Our Lady of Fatima. Our Lady of Fatima School provided a Catholic education for all four of Vada and Stan's children.
Vada attended local elementary and middle schools in Rising Sun, graduating from Rising Sun High School in 1947. Vada then attended and graduated from Beacom College (later to become Goldey Beacom College) in Wilmington. Upon graduation in 1949 from Beacom College, she was employed by Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company of Wilmington until her marriage to Stanley on April 21st, 1951. After raising her family, Vada returned to work outside the home as an administrative assistant to the music and liturgy director at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for 16 years.
Vada most enjoyed along with Stan, the post Saturday 5 p.m. OLF Mass get together at Seasons Pizza. The regular gang of Vada and Stan, Frank and Aggie Stroz, and Stan Kaczorowski, could be seen enjoying their pizza and beer and discussing weekly events. Vada also enjoyed in later years, Stahl Post #30 bus trips to University of Delaware football games. As a high school basketball player herself, Vada and Stan had season tickets to the University of Delaware men's basketball games. Vada truly had a love for the game. Vada also enjoyed her winter trips with Stan to Myrtle Beach, SC and Hutchinson Island, Florida. Vada always liked her early morning (sometimes pre-dawn) walks with Stan and the gang at Battery Park, along the Delaware River. Those walks were sometimes followed by coffee at the Hares Corner McDonalds, where their group was afforded the unprecedented courtesy of "table service".
The family would like to thank the skilled nursing staff at Shipley Living for their loving care they provided Vada during her stay in Skilled Nursing. We would also like to thank all of the other staff members of Shipley Living who provided care and assistance to Vada and Stan while in residence at Shipley Living.
A visitation will be held from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. with funeral services beginning at 11 A.M on Tuesday January 24th at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations can be made to Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, 801 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720 or Salesianum School, 1801 North Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19802.
