Ursuline Sister Marie Albert Walsh, OSU, 96, died April 3, 2018, in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, her home since 2009.Born in Yonkers, New York, to Albert and Mary Harding Walsh, she entered the Ursuline Order in 1946 in Beacon, New York, where she pronounced her first vows in 1949. A graduate of The College of New Rochelle, she also held a Master's degree from Fordham University.Sr. Marie Albert spent most of her professional life in secondary education, teaching and/or serving as principal in Ursuline high schools in The Bronx, New Rochelle and Malone, New York, as well as in Caracas, Venezuela. For twenty-five years, Sr. Marie Albert served the Wilmington Ursuline Academy Upper School five separate times: as Principal (1961-1966), and as teacher in the "70's, "80's and "90's. She also served several terms on the local school's Board of Trustees. By her final years in Wilmington (1998 " 2009), Sr. Marie Albert had retired from teaching though she continued in a volunteer capacity at Ursuline Academy. The focus of her work during those years shifted to the Ministry of Caring where she worked in several capacities, something she continued until shortly before her death. Over the years, she also volunteered locally on the Sisters' Council for the Catholic Diocese, Wilmington United Neighborhoods, and was active in the local chapters of Habitat for Humanity, Common Cause and Pax Christi USA. Well known throughout the Ursuline Order as a relentless worker at whatever she did, she was also famous for "composing" humorous new lyrics for songs for any occasion!Within the Ursuline Order, Sr. Marie Albert also served on the Provincial Council for the Eastern Province and as Superior in convents throughout the Province in The Bronx, New Rochelle and Malone, New York. From 1995 through 1998, she resided in Rome as Director of the Ursuline Sisters renewal program.Sr. Walsh is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Albert Walsh, sister, Mary Rosalind Gilligan and a nephew, Greg Walsh. She is survived by her Ursuline Sisters, her sister-in-law, Nan Walsh, and many loving nieces and nephews and their families.A viewing will be held Sunday, April 8, 2018, from 2:00 " 5:30 PM at the Ursuline Province Center, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, New York 10804. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated there by Brother Ronald Giannone, OFM Cap., on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 10:30 AM.
