Obituary

On May 28th, 2023, Thomas Chapman Hutchison (Tom), 75, son of the late Margaret (Chapman) and Claude Hutchison, beloved husband, devoted father, loving grandfather, and caring brother passed away peacefully at his home in Newark, Delaware, surrounded by his family.

Born on November 28, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri, he attended Christian Brothers College. He then moved east to attend the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Tom's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish a restaurant and bar in Newark, Delaware, which he proudly owned and operated for 32 years under the names Salsa's, Mangos, and Hutch's Pub.

Tom possessed an infectious sense of humor, always quick with a witty remark to bring a smile to the faces of those around him. His dancing abilities were legendary, captivating others with his incredible sense of rhythm on the dance floor. He had an unwavering appreciation for Motown music-its soulful melodies were a soundtrack to his life.

Tom was an All-American soccer player in college. Whether it was soccer, golf, billiards or any other sport, Tom demonstrated a natural ability and a competitive spirit that inspired those who played alongside him.

Above all, Tom cherished his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. He was deeply devoted to his wife, Joanne Joyce, and his four children: Heidi Hutchison (Andrew Hanes), Krista Liss-Stoume (Edward Stoume), Tami Lunsford (George DeBenedictis), and Thomas Hutchison Jr. (Jessica Starost). Tom's love extended to his ten grandchildren: Emma, Olivia, Jonathan, Carter, Gabriel, Hazel, Finnigan, Samuel, Parker, and Ruby. Tom is also survived by his sister, Claudia Faherty, brother-in-law Robert Faherty, and numerous other loving family members. His beloved dog, Lucy, will miss his affectionate companionship as well.

Tom's commitment to his faith and his involvement in the Holy Family Church community included serving as an Oblate.

In the wake of his passing, Thomas Chapman Hutchison leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a genuine joy for life. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his family and friends find solace in the beautiful memories they shared with him.
