Thomas
Gula
February 28, 1950 – February 7, 2023
Thomas Gula, of Newark, DE, passed away on February 7, 2023 at the age of 72, surrounded by loving family and friends. Born on February 28, 1950 in Wilmington, Delaware, Tom was the third of four children born to John and Elizabeth Gula. He is survived by the love of his life, Betty Parker Duff; his siblings, Geri Volzone, John Gula and Michael Gula; his sister-in-law, Andrea Gula; brother-in-law, Sam Volzone; and his nieces and nephews who thought he was pretty cool.
Tom was a musician who played the guitar in local bands for many years. He possessed an innate ability to write songs, which amazed and provoked envy in his younger brother. He was an artist, a writer, and a whiz at crossword puzzles. He loved to swim and eat good food. He loved to walk with Betty in local parks, enjoying the beauty of nature.
Tom despised injustice and oppression, and was thoughtful and generous to acquaintances and friends. He will be sorely missed by his neighbors in Villa Belmont.
Tom attended the University of Delaware, was a member of Local 451 Ironworkers, was an Operations Manager for BabyTel Communications and a Field Technician for Advanced Networking.
A visitation for Thomas will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may call from 2 to 3 PM, with a memorial service following at 3 PM. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation to Food Bank of Delaware or Doctors Without Borders.
