T. Warren McCafferty, Jr. "Buzz", 81 of Hockessin passed away peacefully at home in his sleep with a smile on his face on November 7, 2014.Buzzy was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Marie (Sevier) and T. Warren McCafferty, Sr. He graduated from Christ Our King Grade School, Archmere Academy and Dickinson College. He was a devoted teacher at Salesianum School for 37 years, retiring in 2008 and continued even after retirement to greatly cherish the Sallies community and support Sallies sports. While at Sallies he was the assistant baseball coach under the late Fr. Robert Kenney. He loved reading, keeping up with current events, vacationing with his family in Stone Harbor, NJ and entertaining friends and family as the great story teller he was. He had a generous heart, and loved meeting people from all walks of life, and truly was a champion of the underdog.Buzz will be missed by his wife of 55 years, Barbara J. (Waldman) McCafferty; his daughter, Jane Elizabeth McCafferty and her husband Patrick Tierney of Pittsburgh, PA; his son, David Sevier McCafferty and his wife, Cheryl of Reston, VA; his son and primary caregiver, Matthew John McCafferty and Linda Verello of Philadelphia, PA; his grandchildren, Rosemary and Annajane McCafferty Lowe, his sister, Christine Donnelly and her husband Thomas of Brigdeville DE, his sister and brother in law Shirley and Butch Ackerman, many nieces, nephews and friends.Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated on Thursday morning at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Church, Clayton and Cedar Streets, Wilmington. Friends may call at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Burial will be All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
