Suzanne Joan Tyrrell, age 81, of Wilmington, DE passed away on September 6th, 2024. Born in Wilmington, Suzie was the daughter of the late Elizabeth (Taylor) and Robert Marshall Evans. She graduated from Brandywine High School and the University of Delaware and was a proud Blue Hen. Suzie worked as a teacher at Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic School, St. Helena's Catholic School, and Richardson Park Elementary School until her retirement.
Suzie loved to travel and had a case of wanderlust. She would often hop in the car for a day trip to Lancaster County or the beaches of New Jersey and Maryland. Suzie and her husband Bill, traveled to all 50 states, except Alaska, and enjoyed visiting Rehoboth Beach. Suzie loved to walk the boardwalk in Rehoboth and visit Funland with her daughter, Melissa. She also enjoyed visiting Longwood Gardens and going out to eat with her family and friends. Suzie was a lifelong, proud Democrat and a lover of animals.
In addition to her parents, Suzie was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Bill Tyrrell in 2023; her beloved grandmother, Bertha Russell Taylor; and her brother-in-law, Matt Varner. Suzie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Michael Hurwitz; her granddaughter, Laura Hurwitz; her sisters, Nancy Evans Little (Alex), and Jane Evans Varner; her sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Stevenson and Cecilia Watkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
A visitation for Suzie will be held on Tuesday September 17, 2024 at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road Wilmington, DE 19808 from 11:15AM to 12PM with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 12PM. Burial will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
