Steven B. Mathis, 70 of Newark passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital surrounded by his wife and children after a month and a half of fighting to recover from a brain aneurysm.

Steve was born in Aurora, IL, the son of Faith (Lemke) and the late Harry R. Mathis, Jr. He graduated from Brandywine High School and worked passionately managing various car dealerships for over 50 years.  He was an avid golfer and a member of Newark Country Club and formerly belonged to Cavaliers Country Club. Steve enjoyed fishing and spending time with his wife, Kim, their children, and grandchildren.

Steve was a devoted husband to his wife of 42 years, Kim Mathis and loving father to his children, Lindsay Brown and her husband, Daniel of Rock Hill, SC, Kasey Mathis, Theresa Needham and her husband, Brad and Connor Mathis, all of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Alexis, Bradford, Kyah, Madison, Skylar, Hailey, Carter, John, Zoey, Lucy, Claire and Cate; his great-grandchildren, Haven and Sawyer; his brothers, Jeffrey Mathis of Lewes and Scott Mathis of Newark and a host of friends.
