Obituary

Steven W. Lucas, age 81, of Wilmington passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

Steven was born in Abilene, TX, son of the late Jean (Ehm) and Carroll Lucas. A long-time resident of Delaware, Steven graduated from Dickinson High School and received his undergraduate and Master's degrees from the University of Delaware. Steven was the Cadet Commander of the local ROTC chapter and went on to honorably serve our nation in the U.S. Army as a Captain during the Vietnam war. Steven was awarded the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal among other accolades while serving. Steven went on to work as an Electrical Engineer and patent specialist at DuPont until his retirement. Steven's faith meant a lot to him, and he was an active parishioner at St. Marks United Methodist Church. Steve could build or repair almost anything and loved helping others with home improvement and vehicle projects. As an active volunteer, Steve donated his time to the Boy Scouts serving as a Scout Master of Troop 30. In addition to his parents, Steven was also predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Quinn Lucas.

Steven is survived by his daughter, Kerry Lucas; son, Timothy Lucas; brother, Gerald Lucas; sister, Marjorie Kafader; and numerous close family friends whom he all loved.

A visitation for Steven will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 1700 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19804, where friends and family may call from 10-11am, with funeral services following at 11am. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's on the Brandywine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Steven's name to the Food Bank of Delaware or the Sunday Breakfast Mission.
