Sister Teresa Maria de Jésus (Dolores Escolar Muñzo) entered into eternal life on August 11, 2026, at the age of 90. She was born December 10, 1935, in Gomezserracin (Segovia), Spain to the late Maria Muñzo and Ezequiel Escolar. Sr. Teresa entered the Little Sisters of the Poor and professed her religious vows on June 8, 1955. She was a missionary and for over 70 years serving the elderly poor in homes throughout the United States as a Dietary Manager and Hospitality in direct care of the Resident. She was a founding Little Sister in our mission Home in Gallup New Mexico and is well known for the influence she had on the novices during her time of managing the kitchen in St. Ann's Novitiate in Queens Village NY. She will be remembered for her famous delicious cream puffs which were in such demand at the Richmond's French Food Festival that she double the quantity she made from 1000 to 2000 large cream puffs.
She has been in the Newark Home since February 2019. She is survived by her great nephew – Jesús Escolar Merchan (Romina Orengia Merchan) and great niece Guadalupe Escolar Merchan (Josmer Núñez Guerrero) and their children Elena Escolar Orengia, Mateo Núñez Escolar, and Simón Núñez Escolar. Sr. Teresa was their father's aunt. She is preceded in death by all her siblings (four of her sisters were also religious sisters and nuns.)
