Shirley P. Hutchinson, age 91, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 surrounded by her family.Born in Newark, NJ, Shirley was the daughter of the late James and Jean (Strain) Patterson. She loved crocheting and making afghans for family and friends. She was devoted to her grandchildren and was often heard uttering her favorite saying "You gotta laugh". In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Burwell Hutchinson in 1988; her great grandson, Zaggy; and her siblings, Gordon Patterson, Dolores Hutchinson, Constance Halterman, Jean Dugan, Mildred Potter, James Patterson, Jr. and Russell Patterson.Shirley is survived by her children, Shirley McFadden (George) of Wilmington, Burwell L. Hutchinson, Jr. (Catherine) of Millsboro and Beverly E. Hutchinson of Wilmington; her five grandchildren, Burwell III, Keith, David, Laurie and Robert; and her seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Zoe, Duncan, Lilly, Leah, Samantha and Shaun. Also surviving is her sister, Carol Wetmore of Lakewood, NJ.Friends and family are invited to visitation on Monday, January 14th after 11 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington where funeral services will begin at 1 PM.
