Sharon Birowski Hayes, age 68, of Wilmington, DE passed away at her home on April 26th, 2021. A loving wife, mother, Mom Mom, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Sharon is once again with Billy and we are comforted knowing they will spend the rest of their time dancing the nights away.
Born in Wilmington, DE, to the late Joseph Birowski Sr. and Marie (Opalach) Birowski, Sharon was the youngest of three siblings. Sharon grew up at the Corpus Christi School and Church. As a child, she found peace attending the daily Mass at Corpus Christi before heading off to school. At age 13, Sharon met Billy Hayes and as they say, the rest is history. Billy and Sharon married on September 11, 1976 and they had 45 years of marriage before Billy passed in September of 2020.
After high school, Sharon received her associate's degree from Goldey Beacom College and eventually landed as the Religious Education Director at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, where she worked for years ensuring all of the children received their sacraments.
Sharon was a fixture at all of her daughters' events as they grew up in North Wilmington. If she wasn't driving a car full of kids to practice or a meet, and inevitably missing the exit from the interstate; she was likely patiently sitting on a dressing room floor helping to find the perfect dress for the upcoming dance. With her daughters, friends and family, Sharon showed her love with the time she gave.
In the morning, which never started before 9:30 AM, Sharon could be found on her porch with a cup of coffee, enjoying the daily newspaper. She found joy in long talks on the phone with her brother, her cousin, Joan, or with one of her friends from high school. Sharon relished the opportunities to cuddle and 'smell the heads' of her grandchildren. Sharon loved dancing with Billy in the kitchen, holding his hand in the car or curled up in their recliners watching their next favorite show.
In addition to her parents, Sharon was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, William D. "Bill" Hayes, Jr., and her brother, Joseph Birowski, Jr. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Annemarie and Charles Puit, and Kate and Christopher Bolton; her five very special grandchildren, Cameron, Madelyn, Charles "CJ", Emma, and Reese; and her brother, Thomas Birowski, and his wife, Barbara.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 2nd from 3-5pm at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 3rd at 10 A.M. at Corpus Christi Church, 905 New Rd, Wilmington, DE 19805. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
