Sarah Ruth Heaton Limpert, 91, of Bear and Dover, Delaware, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022.

Born in Middlesboro, KY on January 31, 1931, memories of her childhood hometown remained her lifelong joy.  Sarah grew up with her mother Marie and older sister, Marie Adele ('Redel').  As her father Henry died when she was 3, her mother worked 3 jobs to support the family. She always said that she was the original latch-key kid because when she got home from school, her mom was still working.  Sarah's mom worked as a bookkeeper for a coal company in downtown Middlesboro. Mom used to go to the corner, standing on the sidewalk below the office where her mom worked, waiting for her to finish so they would walk home together.

She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1953 where she received a bachelor's degree in Home Economics with additional training to become a registered dietician. She met her husband, Bernard A. Limpert on a blind date during college.  They married April 15, 1953, moving to Wilmington, DE where he worked as an engineer for DuPont, and she worked for Memorial Hospital as a registered dietician.  Following the birth of their 3 children, Sarah remained at home for several years, then returned to work at Stanton Junior High School and New Castle County Red Clay Consolidated School District as a dietician.

Sarah was an extremely talented seamstress, whose work was meticulous and reflected an appreciation for quality in material and design. She taught daughter Nancy and granddaughter Sharon how to sew. She and Bernie enjoyed ballroom dancing with their friends at the DuPont Country Club. She loved entertaining family and friends at her home in Landenberg, PA for many years.

Sarah enjoyed adventures with her children and their families and never missed a family party. With son Chuck, she would go on motorcycle rides around the area and once went camping with his family at Watkins Glen, NY. She recently visited Longwood Gardens and Delaware Art Museum with George and Mandy.

She loved to go flying with Nancy! She would always have her nose pressed to the window to see the world from the air. In September 2019, Nancy flew her to Middlesboro to visit all the places Sarah knew as a child.  Middlesboro was formed by a meteor; the town is basically in a crater with the mountains all around. At pattern altitude the plane flew inside the bowl of mountains. Breathtaking and very cool!  Sarah loved it!

Once there, Sarah navigated around town showing us where she lived, went to church, school and where her mother worked as a bookkeeper for the coal company. It was very interesting to learn more about Sarah's life in Middlesboro and see the places she knew as a kid.

Sarah loved the mountains and couldn't stop talking about them as we flew through the Cumberland Gap and the mountains of Virginia! It was a wonderful and memorable sight-seeing trip!

Sarah is survived by daughter Nancy (Rohr) of Bear and partner, Stanley Brassington; sons, Bernard Charles (Chuck) and fiancée Patti Tranum of Dover, and George Henry and wife Amanda of West Chester, PA; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Saturday, August 27 from 1-3 pm at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808. She will be interred at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery next to her husband Bernard.
