Salameh A.
Farraj
January 15, 1939 – August 12, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Salameh "Sam" Farraj, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who left us on August 12, 2024 at the age of 85. His departure leaves a void in our hearts, but his legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness will live on in the lives of those he touched.
Born on January 15, 1939, Sam was a man of unwavering dedication and boundless love. As a husband, he was the rock of the family, always putting his wife, Margit, and their children first. His marriage of 56 years was a testament to his commitment and deep affection. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the kind of love that grows stronger with each passing day. As a father to his two sons, Samir and Robert, "Baba" was their first hero, their trusted advisor, and their biggest supporter. He instilled in them the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion, and he took great pride in watching them grow into the men and fathers they are today. He was also a loving and supportive father-in-law to his daughter-in-laws, Grace and Megan, who cherished him for his kindness, wisdom, and the warm welcome he extended them into the family. But perhaps the greatest joy in Sam's life came from being a grandfather to his three cherished grandchildren – Ben, Nick, and Ava. His eyes and world would light up in their presence, making them laugh at his silly antics, offering guidance, slipping them cash when he thought no one was looking, and creating memories that they will carry with them forever.
Sam was a man of quiet strength and endless generosity. He never sought recognition for his deeds, but his actions spoke louder than words. Whether it was lending a helping hand to a neighbor or sacrificing his own comfort for the happiness of his family, he lived his life in service to his loved ones. If you only met him briefly or knew him for years, all were captivated by his charm, sense of humor, and generous spirit. His passing is a profound loss to all who knew him, but we find comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to guide us. His life was a testament to the power of love and commitment, and his memory will be a blessing to his family and friends for generations to come.
A private family service will be held to honor his life, with a Mass being planned for a later date in New York for extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sam's honor to the following charities that mean the most to his children and grandchildren, honoring his unwavering commitment to supporting his loved ones: The Jed Foundation, Special Olympics Delaware, and No Kid Hungry.
Habibi, Baba – we wish you a restful peace and thank you for all you sacrificed for your family. You were the best of us, and you will be missed beyond measure.
