Age 91, of Kennett Square, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 16, 2016. Ruth was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1925. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Gertrude Kerlin. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Thomas R. Spell, Jr. in 1990. They loved and raised their family in State College, PA. Ruth worked and retired from Penn State University at Patee Library but spent most of her years at home taking care of her children. Ruth loved reading, playing cards, her annual "girl's trip to Vegas" and telling jokes. More than anything, she adored her family and they adored her in return.She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Elizabeth S. and Scott Dulaney of Clifton, VA, Barbara Spell and Sam Sero of Pittsburgh, PA, Nancy S. and Marlyn Dietz of Kennett Square, PA, Megan S. Fioravanti of Hockessin, DE and Thomas R. III and Ellen Spell of Lewes, DE; eleven grandchildren, Kelly Eignor (Eugene), Mark Lender (Mimi), Sam Sero, Nick Sero (Kenya), Katie Dietz (Rosendo), Madison Dietz, T.J. Fioravanti, Gabriela Fioravanti, Emma Spell (Richard), Thomas Spell IV and Alyssa Spell; and her great grandchildren Ethan, Ben and Dulaney Eignor and Jackson Lender.The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and her daily caretaker, Irish Cella.Friends and family are invited to visitation on Wednesday, July 20th after 5 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington where funeral services will begin at 6:30 PM.
