Roy Carrol
Dickens, "Butch"
October 7, 1941 – April 20, 2025
Roy Carrol Dickens, "Butch", age 83, of Wilmington, DE passed away surrounded by his family on April 20th, 2025.
A proud native of Horsepen, Virginia, he was the son of the late Edna (Stevenson) and Jessie Dickens. He moved to Wilmington as a teenager, in search of work. Butch was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his time in the military, he married Betty Lee and started his family. He worked as a tool salesmen, working for companies such as MAC tools and Matco. He ventured out into the restaurant business, where he met his life partner Mary Marsh. Together, they opened Mary's Kountry Kitchen, which will be in business for 50 years this May. In his free time, Butch found joy in horse racing and sports betting and was a frequent visitor to Delaware Park. He was an avid Eagles fan and enjoyed the Phillies when they would "swing the bat". Butch took great pride in where he grew up and never forgot his roots in Horsepen, VA. This was more than just a hometown - it was the foundation of who he was, and he carried that sense of pride with him throughout his life. Some of his happiest times, were spent there at the farm.
In addition to his parents, Butch was predeceased by his partner, Mary Marsh; his great grandson, River Cannoy; and his siblings, Goldia Ambergy, Faye Bowman, Marcia Havens, and Kenneth Dickens. Butch is survived by his children, Michael Dickens (Karen), Dawn Shutak (Dave), Kim Givens, and Carlena Foresta (Erminio); his grandchildren, Mackenzie Cannoy (Charlie), David Shutak (Hailey), Olivia Shutak (Wild Bill), Caitlin Givens (Chris), Ryan Givens, Riley Givens, Jesse Dickens (Kayla), Tyler Foresta (Mallory), Chandler Foresta, Trevor Foresta, Alessia Foresta, and Elena Foresta; his great grandchildren, Graylon and Massimo; mother of his children, Elizabeth Dickens; and his sister, Lourenda Waters.
