Rosemary D.
Banack
December 21, 1929 – May 3, 2024
Rosemary D. Banack, age 94, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on May 3, 2024. Rosemary was born on December 21, 1929 to Marguerite (McLaughlin) and Daniel O'Donnell, who were first-generation Irish-Americans. She was born during the Great Depression and grew up during World War II. These two events shaped her profoundly. She was a 1948 graduate of St. Elizabeth's High School and started work at Atlantic Aviation shortly after graduation. It was there she met her husband, Eddie, when he happened to pick up his brother's paycheck.
Married for 70 years, they raised their family in Cleland Heights. Rosemary was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a good cook and a talented seamstress, and took pride in providing for her family. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Elizabeth's Church, and was a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality for many years.
Rosemary had a lot of interests throughout her life. She was a life-long reader and loved a good murder mystery. She was very social and helped organize a variety of events for the Church and Sodality. Rosemary and Eddie enjoyed traveling and spoke fondly of their trips to Ireland, Hawaii, California, and Caribbean cruises. They also enjoyed playing the slots, whether in Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, or Delaware Park.
Rosemary was crafty and found joy in challenging herself, eventually learning needlepoint and creating personalized blankets for all her grandchildren. She was a doting grandmother and proud of her ever-growing family. She was surrounded by family as she transitioned to the next life, and we are at peace knowing she's reunited with her husband.
In addition to her parents, Rosemary was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward Banack; son-in-law, Robert DelCollo; sister, Marguerite Kane; and brother, Daniel. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Pokoiski (John), Jane DelCollo, Ann Marie Banack, and Eileen Konstantino (Chris); her grandchildren, Stephanie, Kurt (Mandy), Andrea, Jonathan (Maggie), Ellen, Erin, Andrew; her great grandchildren, Audrey, Mallory, Blythe; her sister, Joan Larnick; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth's R.C. Church, Clayton and Cedar Streets, Wilmington, DE, on Friday, May 10, 2024 from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10:30 A.M. Burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Elizabeth's High School, 1500 Cedar Street, Wilmington, DE 19805.
