Rosemarie Gormley Ercole of Hockessin, Delaware died September 1, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was 89.
Rosemarie was born December 20, 1936, to the late Betty and Charles Gormley and twin sister to James J. Gormley. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1956.
She is survived by her four sons and two daughters: Maria E. Vandegrift, Dominick J. Romano, Jr and his wife Sandra, Charles (Chip) Romano and his wife Lisa, Michael Romano and his wife Amy, Rosemary Patterson, and Peter Romano and his wife Nikki, and her stepson Andrew Ercole, 3rd. She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Ercole, Jr., and stepson Ernest Ercole, grandson James Gormley Vandegrift, sisters: Alma, Letty Swift and her husband Franny, brothers: Charles Gormley and his wife Jane, Edward Gormley and his wife Anne, and James J. Gormley and his wife Nancy. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Besides being dedicated to raising her 6 children, she was an assembly line worker at the General Motors Corporation in Newport, Delaware. She was the real life “Rosie the Riveter.”
A visitation for Rosemarie will be held onThursday, September 17, 2026, at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 7200 Lancaster Ave, Hockessin, DE 19707, where firends and family may call from 10-11am, with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 11am. Burial will follow at St. Patricks Ashland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Rosemarie being that she was a “red hot democrat” would prefer donations go to the Democratic National Committee or to your favorite local democrat running for an office.
