Rosalia
Fontana
June 5, 1941 – July 2, 2023
Rosalia Fontana, age 82, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 2, 2023.
Rosalia was born in Venezuela, daughter of the late Maria Mejia and Pedro Mariño. Rosalia along with her husband immigrated to the United States in 1964 and went on to work a few jobs, successfully operated a daycare for 14 years but was mostly a homemaker raising her family. In her free time, Rosalia truly loved gardening as she was always in touch with nature. Her flowers could bloom just by her walking past them. She was quite a beautiful rose herself. She also enjoyed cooking, reading her Spanish bible, and spending time with her family and friends. Most importantly, she loved being in the sunshine. In addition to her parents, Rosalia is predeceased by her loving husband, Giuseppe Fontana; and daughter, Gelsina Fontana.
Rosalia is survived by her daughters, Josi Fontana, Marisa Livaditis (John); sons Nick Fontana (Beth) and Tony Fontana (Mary); grandchildren Joey (Jamar), Orlando (Jill), Megan (Jonathan), Kristin (Ian), Jason (Rachel), AJ, Lillian, Athan, and Nicholas; great grandchildren, Joey Jr., Camila, Francesco, Alejandro, Serafina, Nora, and Francesca; close caregiver who was like a son to her and a godsend to the Fontana family, Thomas Dodds; and numerous close family friends and extended family in Venezuela as well as in Italy.
A visitation for Rosalia will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at the Mealey Funeral Homes, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where friends and family may call from 10-11am with a funeral service following at 11am. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
The Fontana family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the AccentCare Hospice team for the care and guidance they provided with the care of Rosalia at home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations in Rosalia's memory to Alzheimer's Association at act.alz.org.
