Age 88, of Hockessin, passed away on August 24 at his home. He was the husband of Patricia Brosius Mitchell. Born in Wilmington on June 22, 1927, he was the son of the late Welford Berryman Mitchell and the late Irene McWhirt Mitchell. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Patsko Mitchell, and by one brother and four sisters.Owner of a local contracting business for over forty years, Mr. Mitchell was responsible for many renovations of historic residences in the greater Wilmington area. He was also known for his joy of singing, love of traveling, and for his craftsmanship in the creation of period furniture. He was a Post- World War II Army veteran.Mr. Mitchell is survived by two children, Kathryn M. Pumphrey and her husband, Richard, and his son David C. Mitchell and his wife Sue and grandchildren: Avonlea R. Mitchell, Benjamin G. Pumphrey and K. Meredith Taylor, Sarah E. McKeown, Julie A. Hubbs, and Tim J. McKeown.
