Robert L. Meeks, Jr.

Robert L. Meeks, Jr., age 86, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026. Born on February 15, 1940, in Wilmington, Delaware, Robert grew up with a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for craftsmanship. He attended Brown Vocational High School, where he studied carpentry — a skill that shaped the early years of his working life.

In 1958, Robert proudly enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He served on active duty until 1961 and continued his commitment in the Coast Guard Reserve until 1966, attaining the rank of Petty Officer First Class. His service reflected the discipline, steadiness, and sense of responsibility that he carried throughout his life.

After his military service and several years working in carpentry, Robert found his true vocation at the DuPont Company. He spent the majority of his career as a first-line supervisor in the Freon Department at Chambers Works, where he was respected for his leadership, reliability, and calm presence. Late in his career, he transferred to the Edgemoor Works, completing a long and dedicated tenure before retirement.

Outside of work, Robert was happiest outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, crabbing, fishing, and gardening, and he took pride in sharing these pastimes with family. His greatest joy came from time spent with his four grandchildren — Dean, Alex, Amanda, and Lindsey — who will always remember his stories, humor, and steady guidance.

Robert is survived by his son Edward Meeks, his daughter Kristine Renshaw, and his beloved grandchildren Dean Mikalajczyk, Alex Mikalajczyk, Amanda Renshaw, and Lindsey Renshaw. He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his love of the outdoors, and the countless stories that connected generations. He will be dearly missed.
