A light went out of our lives and a great heart stopped beating on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 in Melbourne, Florida. Richard Alfred Bargelski was born on December 18, 1961 to Harry F. Bargelski Sr. and Darlene (Mimm) Bargelski in Wilmington, Delaware. With his birth Richard joined the Bargelski clan of Claudette, Harry Jr, and soon-to-be Patrick, Robert and Daniel: The Bargelskis of Broom St. It wasn't easy to stand out in this crowd, but he did his best: from wanting a pogo stick for Christmas to being the first one in the family to learn to ski. He attended St. Elizabeth's grade school and served as an altar boy, along with Harry Jr. and Patrick at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church. Soon summers were spent at the first humble cottage at Crystal Beach Manor where renovations with "Pop" were underway, and the first boat, the "Schaefer Special", was shoved underneath, waiting to be launched. Back on Broom St., Richard and his sister, Claudette were excellent swimmers and they participated in the Red Cross Junior Lifeguard program at nearby Canby Park swimming pool. After Boy Scouts, Richard and Harry went on to be Sea Scouts, a program from the Pulaski Legion. Broom St. was left behind, and Richard was off to Delcastle Trade School to be a machinist with all brothers except Daniel, the welder. Working at Dupont as a machinist, he attended Del Tech and received an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering. But one icy day in February he called "Pop" and said he was done with this cold weather, and promptly left For California, went to work with his brother, Robert, and soon after opened his own machine shop. After some time, but still looking for that warm weather, Richard headed for Florida, and there with Harry Jr. at a backyard barbecue, was introduced to someone who worked at Harris Corp. He was home. Richard served there for 27 years; a valued employee who at the time of his passing was a Level Four Engineer, and had traveled to and supported work in other countries. Left to love him still are his children, Justin Mayse (Middletown) and Brooke and Austin Bargelski (Melbourne), and his life centered around them always. He was predeceased in life by his father, Harry Sr. in 2001; his uncles, Jackie Bargelski, and Paul Spitzer; his Godparents, Mary and Peter Grossi; and grandparents, Alfred and Edna Mimm. He is survived by his mother, Darlene; sister, Claudette, brothers, Harry Jr., Patrick, Robert (Felice), Daniel (Karen); his nieces/nephews, Elise, Angelina, Joseph, Sean, Maggie Rose, Nicholas, Scott, Sidney; great nieces, Arianna, Sadie Grace; his two granddaughters, Paiten and Riley; aunts and uncles Dickie and Phyllis Bargelski, and Kathleen and Buddy Blackwelder. Richard enjoyed a good bourbon. His plate for the motorcycle said "Hey, Pop". He could fix, make, and redo just about anything; loved diving for lobsters, landscape gardening, and playing the guitar. He had a quick wit, was perceptive of where to fill a need, bring good cheer, and a generous heart. He was a Master Mason of Harbor City Lodge 318, Melbourne, and a Noble of the Azan Shriners in Florida, on hand when help was needed. And always enjoyed trips back to Delaware to family and friends, among them Stephen and Donna Manista, Anne Menaquale, and Bill Quillen. He called his mother. Richard was surrounded by some family and friends when a vicious cancer battle ended. He was a good Christian, but always a Catholic searching and he had the last sacraments of the Church. His brother, Patrick, gave his eulogy at the viewing and Catholic service on November 1, 2021 and he was buried in Florida Memorial Gardens, Rockledge, FL.
