Obituary

Renee Buskirk, 60 of Wilmington,Delaware passed away June 19, 2024 after a brief but mighty battle with cancer.

Renee was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Ruth E. (Neidlein) and Donald F. Gagnon, Sr., which began her life as a proud Elsmerian. She graduated from Wilmington High School and later attended University of Delaware, where she obtained her paralegal certification.

Renee fiercely loved her children and was proud of their accomplishments. She always tried to help them in anyway she could and raised them well. She enjoyed taking them on vacation or sitting around the table to a home cooked meal.

Renee loved the beach, especially Lewes and Clearwater. The Palm Pavillion was her sanctuary. Every year, when the weather broke, you could find her sitting on her patio or at the pool enjoying the sunshine. Renee was also a life long fan of the Phillies and Eagles (Go Birds!).

Renee was dedicated to helping domestic violence victims. She began her over 20 years of State of Delaware service as a Victim Services Specialist for Probation and Parole and later as the Victim Services coordinator for the Department of Correction. Not only was Renee dedicated to assisting victims in Delaware, for which she was honored by the Delaware Victim's Rights Task force, she also was a national responder. Renee responded with a team of Delaware crisis workers on behalf of NOVA (National Organization for Victim Assistance) and FEMA to provide support and resources to families in the aftermath of devastating hurricanes in Florida and along the Mississippi gulf coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Renee finished out her career with the State of Delaware as the Assistant Director of the Lawyers' Fund for Client Protection of the Supreme Court of Delaware. She was active in the Victim's Rights Advocacy Group and a member of the Delaware Association of Police.

Renee will be deeply missed by her husband of 22 years, Russel Buskirk; her daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Bobby Bollettiero of Wilmington; her son, Vincent Perregrino (Mallory) of Francestown, NH; her grandson, Logan; her stepson, Tyler Buskirk of Lancaster, PA;her bonus daughter, Sarah Elgena of Willow Street,PA; her brothers, Donald F. Gagnon, Jr. of Wilmington and Gary Gagnon and his wife, Rachel of St. Petersburg, FL; her sister, Jeanine Fox of Dover and many nieces and nephews.

Renee's reunion for family and friends will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the Delaware Associate of Police located at 2201 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, DE from 12pm to 5pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Center for Justice, Victim's Rights Task Force, 100 W 10th St, Wilmington, DE 19801
