Raymond B. Campbell, 89 of Newark passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
Ray was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Sallie V. (Powell) and George B. Campbell. He was a graduate of P.S. DuPont High School and served in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He worked for 20 years with the Wilmington Police Department, retiring as a sergeant. He also worked for 18 years at the Boys Club and part-time for the Martin Dealerships.
His memberships included the Delaware Association of Police, St. Anthony's Holy Name Society, Prince of Piedmont Lodge, the VFW, Post 2865, the American Legion, Post 865 and the Masons, where he was the Head Tyler. He was the past president of the Shields Square Club in Dover and also of the Tall Cedar Lebanon Clown Unit.
In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by his son, Raymond G. "Butch" Campbell and his sisters, Porky Stewart, Edna Mae Daisy and Virginia "Mike" Barton and his former spouses, Beverly Campbell and Jean Cresceni.
Ray is survived by his sons, Bryan Campbell (Pamela) of Newark and Michael (Jennifer) of Charlestown, MD; his daughters, Wendy Campbell (Rob) of Newark, Tracy Seacreast (Chuck) and Laurie Dean (Mike), all of Elkton, MD; his grandchildren, Jenna, Amanda (Mat), Danielle, Keith, Kyle, JJ, Jesse and Dustin; his great-grandchildren, Neaveh, Brooke and Alyana and his daughter-in-law, Barbara Campbell.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road at 12 Noon. Friends may visit after 11 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Wilmington Association of Retired Police (WARP), P.O. Box 1092, Wilmington, DE 19899.
