Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Ada Pearl Sutton.  Phyllis graduated from Wilmington High School and worked in accounting for the DuPont company for many years.  After marrying Bill and raising her 2 children, she began a career in residential real estate, working for several companies including Patterson Schwartz.  Later in life she was a tour guide at Hagley Museum and very much enjoyed sharing Delaware history with guests daily and walking the property.  Her late father, William Sutton, also worked at Hagley Museum.

Phyllis loved her home, was dedicated to her family.  She enjoyed gardening, beautiful flowers, bowling, and walking.  She and Bill were very active at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church while raising her family, where she sang in the choir and Bill was an usher.  She sang in local shows with fellow choir members that brought her great joy.  She loved all music as well as dancing. After Bill's death in 1986 she enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey both socially and participating in several competitions.  She enjoyed the theater and volunteered with the Grand Opera House in Wilmington for years and enjoyed many performances.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis is predeceased her late husband, William Thomas Kelly.  She is also predeceased by several brothers and a sister.  She is survived by her son, John Michael Kelly (Tracy) and her daughter, Jennifer Kelly Gallmann (Michael) both of Wilmington, her grandchildren, Ryan Michael Gallmann, Laura Robyn Kelly, and William John Kelly.  She is also survived by her sisters Ruthann Ryan of Florida, Millicent Stirparo of Wilmington and Rosemary Sutton-Sande of Connecticut and numerous nieces and nephews.
