Phyllis Hinkle Episcopo, age 91, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2022 at her home.

Phyllis was born in Wilmington, DE, the daughter of the late Dorothea (Palmer) and Louis J. Hinkle. She graduated from P.S. DuPont as a member of the class of 1949.

She worked as a cook in the St. Elizabeth's Church convent and was a homemaker for her four children. Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her family, especially Sundays for the weekly sibling's luncheon and her Friday excursions with her sister-in-law Jeffie.

She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Christopher A. Episcopo; brother, Louis Hinkle; sister, Louise Rizzo; son-in-law, Michael Schaal; and her devoted friend, Jack Fitzpatrick.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Danny and Diana Episcopo, Christine Schaal, Anthony Episcopo and Susan and Robert Boyer; 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, siblings Judy Esterling (George), Thomas Hinkle (Jeffie), sister-in-laws, Bonnie Episcopo and Lorraine Shannon (Wayne).

A special thank you to her aides who were more than her caretakers, they were part of our family. Rita Rizzo, Lucy Mazzola, Patricia Richardson-Titus and Donna Pesce. Also, her compassionate nurse care team from Bayada Hospice, Lucy Mealey, Julia McLaughlin, Mark Figgs and Laquita Johnson.

Viewing will be held at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Friday, December 30th from 9am-10:30am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 901 N. DuPont Street, Wilmington, DE 19805. Burial will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington, DE 19805.
