Pauline Anna Berlingieri, 70, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Christiana Care Hospital surrounded by family.
Pauline was born in 1950 in Queens, New York, the daughter of the late Elisa (Pellegrino) and Vito Mitrano. She graduated from The Thorpe Secretarial School in Manhattan, New York. In 1967 she met her future husband, they married in 1973 and moved to Delaware. Raised in the Catholic faith, she joined St. John the Beloved Parish, where she volunteered in various Parish organizations. After her daughter started first grade, she was encouraged to become the Coordinator of Religious Education. She devoted herself to complete the necessary course studies in the Diocesan sponsored program allowing her to ultimately become Director of Religious Education, where, together with her team of selfless volunteers, she touched thousands of children's lives through her administration of St. John's CCD and sacramental programs, Vacation Bible School, and countless other religious formation programs. Additionally, her devotion also included being Eucharistic Minister as well as helping with weddings and seasonal decorations of the church. She truly dedicated her time, talent, and treasure in service to others.
She retired after 30 years to begin a second career as Grandma to her only granddaughter, Gianna. She enjoyed this time the most - nurturing and sharing her faith. Grandma's special "Cheerios soup" was often requested. Many memories were created from the activities, songs, and stories that they shared.
Pauline will be dearly missed by her husband of 47 years, Dominic; her daughter and son-in-law, Dina and Shawn Riley of Pike Creek; her granddaughter, Gianna; her brother and sister-in-law, Donato and Darlene Mitrano of Mineola, NY; and her extended family and friends.
