Paul Francis Medon

April 12, 1956 — July 9, 2026

Wilmington

Paul Francis Medon, 70, of Wilmington, DE, went to meet the spirit in the sky on Thursday, July 9th, 2026, surrounded by family members.

Paul was born in 1956 in Teaneck, NJ, to Francis (Bud) Edward Medon and Mary E. Newman Medon. He was the sixth of eight children. His impish, quirky charm endeared his parents and siblings to him early on and he was adored by them.

At three years old, Paul's family moved to Wilmington, DE. Growing up, he loved the outdoors and animals, especially the litter of puppies that their family dog, Buffy, delivered each year.

Paul attended Salesianum High School, where he prided himself on marching to the beat of his own drum and going against the grain at any chance he got. He often recollected an anecdote about not being in his senior yearbook because his hair was too long for school code- but as luck would have it, there was still a photo of him on an activities page!

After high school, Paul began working at a local gas station. He quickly worked his way up to manager and loved working there with many of his friends. During this time, his father remarried to Eleanor (Lynn) Inscho, and he gained three stepsiblings.

In 1982, Paul began working at DuPont as a lab technician. He always had a knack for science and quickly picked up anything asked of him. He spent the remainder of his career at DuPont in various departments and eventually was promoted to Chemist- which is an accomplishment that he took great pride in as he had never earned a degree. Paul had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and thoroughly enjoyed learning about every new scientific technique to which he was introduced.

The Boy Scouts of America organization was very near and dear to Paul’s heart. He was involved as a young boy and then later on volunteered as a scout master for many years in adulthood. He very much enjoyed teaching the youth in his pack about science and the outdoors.

Paul will be remembered by friends and family in a multitude of ways; for his bizarre sense of humor, his love of the outdoors and gardening, his enthusiastic connection to music, plentiful camping and canoe trips, and his love of all animals (from dogs to frogs), among many other things.

He is survived by his children; Jeremiah (Gretchen) Medon, R. Thomas Medon, Jeannine (Jordy) Valle, and Samuel Medon, and grandchildren; Hazel and Graham Medon and Chase, Brenna, and Tobin Valle. He is also survived by all ten of his siblings and stepsiblings.

A memorial gathering is planned for Sunday, September 20th, 2026, at 12:00PM at the pavilion in Brandywine Creek State Park in Wilmington, DE. Friends & family are encouraged to wear tie-dye, Paul's signature look.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, PO Box 152079, Irving, TX 75015 (Scouting.org), Brandywine Valley SPCA, 1212 Phoenixville Pike, West Chester, PA 19380 (Bvspva.org), or the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, 925 Canal Street, Suite 3701, Bristol, PA 19007 (Delawareriverkeeper.org)
