Paul M. Giammatteo, 94 of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Saturday January 24, 2026. Born in Wilmington, DE, Paul is the son of the late Pasquale and Bessie (Pennetto) Giammatteo. He retired in 1989 as an Assistant Vice President in the Commercial Banking Department at Bank of Delaware (Now known as PNC) where he worked for 25 years. He graduated from the University of Delaware. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War during which he served for four years. Paul had a passion for the accordion and banjo. He played in the Breck Mills String Band and Wilmington String Band. He was active in fund drives for United Way, St. Francis Hospital and Leukemia Society and Holy Family Church. He was a member of the American Legion. Paul enjoyed slots in Atlantic City, Dover Downs, and Delaware Park.
Paul was predeceased by his wife Selma (Wolfman), his daughter Charlene who died at the age of 17 in 1978, his sister Rae Marusco, his brother Charles and his niece Marie Marshall.
Paul is survived by his niece Linda Phillips and nephew Tom Marshall. Also, by his great niece and nephews, Nick Gordon (Lauren), Melissa Nguyen (Josh), Michele Haas (Kyle), Diana Golden (Greg), and Amanda Burris (Andrew). Also 10 great great nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank Primary Care At Home and Accent Hospice for their amazing care and kindness to Paul.
Funeral services will be held on February 9th at 11am at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, where friends may visit after 10 am. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery.
