Patricia M. Welz, age 79, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, November 9, 2022.

Patricia was born in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of the late Mary (Kulb) and Mack Sandifer. She graduated from Mercy Career & Technical High School and became a hairdresser, later becoming a homemaker to raise her family. Patricia spent some of her younger years living in Charlotte, South Carolina riding horses and staying with her favorite Aunt Ernie. She loved children and as the oldest cousin Patricia was often tasked with supervising her 15 younger cousins. After her own children had grown, Patricia worked as a Montessori preschool teacher for several years. She always had a flair for home decorating and flower arranging. Patricia's family described her as an amazing one-of-a-kind wife, mom, "G-mom," and friend. She was always ready to lend a helping hand in times of need. In her free time, she loved taking trips to Atlantic City, NJ and Wildwood, NJ while owning her own beach house in Brigantine Beach, NJ. She also enjoyed many summers by the pool at her Newark home. She was a great storyteller and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Patricia was predeceased by her brother, Michael Sandifer.

Patricia is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Al Welz; son, Michael (Christine) Welz; daughter, Colleen Sharp; three beloved grandchildren, Nathan Welz, Ryan Sharp, and Devan Welz; sister, Tina (Butch) Katz; nephew, George (Carynn) Katz; brother-in-law, Phil Phillips; and numerous close family and friends whom she all loved.

A visitation for Patricia will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may call from 10 to 11A.M with a memorial service following at 11A.M. Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Patricia's name to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
