Patrice Jane "Pat" Noonan passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on January 11, 2021 after a short illness. Pat was born on July 1, 1949 in Wilmington to Carmen and Jayne Jones Stigliano. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, retired Delaware State Trooper Sgt. Thomas A. Noonan, her children Shane Noonan of Wilmington and Kristen (Craig) Marra of Elkton, beloved grandchildren Alyssa, Kiley & Samantha Noonan, Sadie, Michael & Mattea Marra, her sister, Donna Dill of Newark and sister-in-law Kathleen Hanby of Kennett Square. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, parents-in-law Thomas Sr. and Catherine Noonan, brothers-in-law Michael Dill and Joseph Hanby and many dear friends and family. Pat grew up in Wilmington and attended St. John the Beloved grade school and John Dickinson high school before graduating from McKean in 1967. She went on to study nursing, graduating from Beebe Hospital School of Nursing in 1970, with her lifelong friends Claire Moffa, Lucy Sturmfelz, Connie Walker, Sue Welsh, and the late Denise Hickman and Bonnie Williams, with whom she laughed and traveled extensively. Pat excelled at her career as an emergency room registered nurse, spending 10 years at the Newark Emergency Room and then 17 more at Christiana Hospital, where she was awarded the Nursing Trauma Service Award. While working, she was the full-time caregiver for her mother, Jayne, whom she adored, until her passing in 1992. After retiring from nursing, she went on to be an active, hands-on grandmother who loved caring for her many beautiful grandchildren. Pat was an accomplished skier and traveled the world doing so with her family and friends. She also loved the beach, and spent many years vacationing in Rehoboth and the Outer Banks. Many hours of joy were spent by the backyard pool where countless children have learned to swim. Pat was a generous, loving mother and grandmother, and a devoted sister and aunt who played a significant role in the lives of her nieces and nephews. She was an integral part of her Brookhaven neighborhood, forming lifelong friendships that have lasted almost 50 years. She will be greatly missed and has left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Pat's family would also like to thank the kind-hearted staff at Heartland Hospice. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 16th from 9:30 to 11 A.M. at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church at 12 P.M, 9th and Dupont Streets Wilmington. Interment will be held privately at a later date at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd. Bear. It was Pat's wish that no one felt obligated to attend funeral services during the COVID-19 pandemic. As an alternative, a live webcast will be held below.
