Nancy Jean Weber
Sidell
January 11, 1930 – November 24, 2022
Nancy Jean Weber Sidell, 92, of Hockessin passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 24, 2022, surrounded by her family at her home.
Nancy grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio as one of eight children. She and her husband, Bob, had nine children, so large families, lots of love and plenty going on were par for the course her entire life. As the hub of her large extended family, Nancy was a loving and steady companion to Bob for 59 years and a steadfast and understanding mother to her children. Her kindness was ever expanding, and she touched many, many lives with her clear-eyed encouragement, engaging each person as she found them.
When Bob had a heart attack at 43, Nancy jumped into full-time work while maintaining a solid home life for the family. After raising the children, she still had the kind of drive that led her to go back to college and complete her undergraduate degree at age 60, followed by a master's in social work at 65! She embarked on a new career working to help meet the needs of homebound patients with Christiana Care Visiting Nurse and worked until her retirement at age 81.
Never slowing down, after retirement she returned to her love of quilting and produced hundreds of beautifully designed and colorful handmade quilts and spread them across the family and friends. Her quilts were also sold in local gift shops! Even after her diagnosis of lung cancer, she was unwavering in continuing her loving guidance and support of the now three generations of family.
Her sense of humor was legendary. You always knew how much she enjoyed a good laugh when she would throw her head back and laugh out loud.
In her long and full life of her almost 93 years, she gained the love and respect of everyone around her because of her hard work and joy in life. Her capacity for love and laughter brightened this world! Thinking of Nancy will warm the hearts of those who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Robert Leonard Sidell; her son Thomas Edward Sidell; her grandson Casey; and her siblings, Charles "Bud", Patricia, Janet, Gerry, Richard, Mary Jane and Thomas.
Nancy is survived by her children Robert Joseph Sidell, Kim Sidell Christy (Stephen), Kathleen Sidell, Mark Weber Sidell (Kathryn), Christopher Martin (Toni), Jeffery Sidell, Theresa Sidell Reed (Garry), Patrick Michael Sidell (Mary); her grandchildren Robert "Bear" (Audrey), Kimberly Joy (Kyle), Kadie, Zachary, Christiaan (Ivy), Devin (Catherine), Channing, Andre, Christopher (Amanda), Alexander, Aaron, Alexandra, Adrienne, Cameron, Audrey, Elliot, Michael.
A visitation will be held on Thursday December 1st, 2022 from 11 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. with funeral services beginning at 12:30 P.M. at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. Burial will be held privately at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
