Michael J. Carney, age 80, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
Michael was born in Wilmington, son of the late Mary (Givens) and Harry Carney. Michael graduated from Salesianum High School and received an associates degree from Georgia Tech. Michael went on to become the Head of Logistics at ICI America's, where he worked until his retirement. Michael was athletic and loved golfing, bowling, and playing both baseball and softball in multiple leagues. Michael was a devoted catholic as a member of the Knights of Columbus and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church. In his free time, Michael enjoyed watching and rooting for Notre Dame sports, and traveling. His favorite trip was his trip to Ireland with his brother, Ebby. Michael also had a soft spot for animals, especially his dogs Sid and Tony who Michael loved dearly. In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his loving wife, Brenda J. Carney in December; and brothers, Harry and Edward "Ebby" Carney.
Michael is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Denise (Robert) Craft, Kathleen (Brett) Denver, Michele (Bill) Michalcewiz, and Melissa (Mitchell Pope) Carney; grandchildren, Christine (Rob) Denton, Michael (Amanda) Craft, Brenden Denver, Camryn Denver, Brynn Michalcewiz and Erin Michalcewiz; great grandchildren Juliana and Robbie Denton, and Liam and Emma Craft; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends whom he all loved.
A visitation for Michael will take place on Friday, February 24, 2023, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may call from 1 to 2:30PM. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to spend time with your loved ones and enjoy a glass of Chivas or Guinness in Michael's name.
