Melanie Ann Fischer, age 70, of Wilmington, DE passed away following a brief illness, with her family by her side at Christiana Hospital on August 5, 2021. Born in Columbus, OH, she was the daughter of the late Marguerite (Zell) and Charles Knight. Melanie graduated from the Wilmington School of Nursing with her R.N., and later received her BSN from Wilmington University. She worked for Christiana Care at Wilmington Hospital for her entire career, specializing in ICU care and in Case Management. Melanie enjoyed playing games on her iPad and in person that would connect her with friends and family, such as Scrabble, Uno, and Words with Friends. She also enjoyed Celtic music and watching HGTV and Food Network cooking shows. Melanie loved Ohio State Football and was a parishioner at St. Helena's Roman Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, Melanie was predeceased by her brother, Thomas C. Knight. Melanie is survived by: her husband, John Thomas Fischer, with whom she would have celebrated her 46th anniversary next week; her daughter and son-in-law, Tanya and Brad Dunkle; her sons Andrew Thomas Fischer and John Alexander Fischer and his significant other Hanna Wenerd; her grandchildren, Arden and Rowan; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A visitation will be held on Thursday August 12th from 10:30am to 12pm with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 12pm at St. Helena's Roman Catholic Church at 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809. Burial will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Ministry of Caring, 115 E. 14th St Wilmington, DE 19801.
