Maryann Nieuweboer (McElrone), age 67, of Newark, Delaware passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Maryann grew up in Cleland Heights and graduated from Henry C. Conrad High School and was a flag twirler in the Redskin Marching Band.
She was a devoted wife and mother who was always there for her family and so many others. When the kids were young all the other kids in neighborhood would come to her house and play, she was the “Kool Aid” mom and provided anything they wanted.
Maryann was very talented and loved to paint and basket weave but was most known for her photography and the pictures she took and posted for all to enjoy. One of her joys in life was to plant and take care of flowers which thrived under her care.
She had a love for travel and enjoyed her trips to Ireland, Scotland, Italy and Holland with her loving mother-in-law, Magda. She also spent time in the Caribbean with family.
Maryann, her family and extended family loved to camp and spent many trips along the east coast. Hiking through the woods was one of her favorite things to do. Ending the day with her family around a camp fire brought her joy.
We can’t say enough about Maryann, she was a very special person. A loving wife, mother, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt and wonderful friend to many.
She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Herb(ert) Nieuweboer; daughter, Carly Ragucci and her husband, Vincent; son, Jeremy Nieuweboer; sister, Kathleen Furness (Danny); twin brother, Robert “Bobby” McElrone, Jr. (Pam); mother-in-law, Magda Nieuweboer; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Diker (Rustem) and Carmen Scharf (Tom); brother-in-law, Derek Nieuweboer; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, not to mention many loving friends and her grand puppies Bentley, Finn and Rocky.
Maryann was predeceased by her parents, Robert McElrone, Sr. and Estelle (Snooky) Carlile McElrone; father-in-law, Gerrit Nieuweboer; and brother-in-law, Bill Scharf.
A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at a later date. In memory of Maryann, donations can be made to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, PO Box 96069, Washington, DC 20090.
