Mary E. Whitfield, age 84, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, August 26, 2022.

Mary was born in New Jersey, growing up in Rock Hill Beach, MD, daughter of the late Edith (Bloomer) and Clarence Olstad. She graduated from high school and received her bachelor's degree from Towson State Teachers College. She went on to work as a teacher, as well as a homemaker raising her family. Mary loved to spend time with her husband, Carveth (Woody) Whitfield, and they shared a very special and close bond. In her leisure time, Mary enjoyed going to Ocean City, MD, and spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Carveth Whitfield; and daughter, Karen Whiteside.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Laura Whitfield (Samuel); grandsons, Mark (Chelsea) and Jeffrey (Angela) Whiteside; sister, Jill Wike; and numerous close family members and friends.

The family would like to thank everyone who provided Mary with care and compassion.

Services for Mary will be held privately.
