Age 84, of Smyrna, DE, passed away peacefully at Kent General Hospital on Saturday, July 16, 2016 surrounded by her family. Born in Whaleysville, MD, Sylvia was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Littleton) Lewis. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 651 Millington, the American Legion Smyrna, the Middletown Moose Lodge. She was a former member of Limestone Presbyterian Church. Sylvia enjoyed dancing on Saturday night at Millington VFW with friends and fellow Post members. She enjoyed driving with her friend, Harold, listening to audio books and having Saturday night dinner with her daughter and grandkids and family at Perkins. One of her greatest joys in life was shopping, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and grandchildren and her two dogs Penny and Misty. Her husband, Robert H. Mears, predeceased her in 1986.Sylvia will be dearly missed by her daughter, Joy DeLucia; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert G. and Karen Mears, all of Newark, DE; seven grandchildren, Kevin, James, Nicholas, Sarah, Vincent, Kasie and Jessica; two great granddaughters, Adelaide and Carrigan; and her best friend and companion for the past 16 years, Harold Clendaniel.Friends and family are invited to visitation after 6 PM on Friday, July 22nd at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington where funeral services will begin at 7:30 PM.
