Obituary

Mary M. Connor, age 93, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully, on Sunday May 29, 2022.  Mary will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Mary was born Mary Magdeline in Atlantic City, New Jersey on July 4, 1928, to Michael and Marguerite Gilroy.  Mary was always so proud that she was born on the 4th of July, she would tell her children the fireworks were for her birthday! Mary graduated from St. Patrick's Grade School and P.S. Du Pont High School.

Mary and her family have been members of St. Elizabeth Parish for over 65 years. Mary was an active member of St. Elizabeth assisting in the Altar Guild, the Christmas Bazaar, Out Reach, and serving at Emmanuel Dining Room.

Mary was a secretary at Allied Kid before having her children and after her children were in school, she worked part time at Hillside House Nursing Home. However, Mary's favorite job was being a wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Mary was happiest when she was with her family.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband, beach vacations with her children, Christmas holidays and time spent with her loved ones.

Mary was predeceased by her parents Michael and Marguerite Gilroy, her sister M. Ann Gilroy and her daughter in law Jacqueline Connor.  She is survived by her loving husband of over 70 years, John F. Connor; her sons John M. (Linda), Michael (Bernadette), and Mark; her daughters, Marianne (William) Cowan, Jane (Daniel) Caton; and grandchildren, Michael (Chelsea) Connor, Daniel (Alexandra) Caton, Ian Caton, Shawn Caton, William Cowan, Hannah (Joshua) Hyman, Patrick Cowan, and two great grandsons; Noah Connor and Charles Hyman.
