Mary Frances Alred, age 89, of Newark and Bethany Beach, DE died at home on October 27, 2020. Born in Narberth, PA, she was the daughter of the late Catherine (Sweeney) and William McSorley. A graduate of Lower Merion High School, she married the late T.C. Alred in 1955 and moved to Delaware where she was a Navy spouse and homemaker. After raising her daughters, she worked as an Administrative Assistant for the State of Delaware in several different departments, eventually retiring from the Office of State Personnel after 16 years. Mary was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish. She was a gifted knitter and enjoyed her family and friends. We will miss her hearty laugh and sage advice. Mary is survived by her daughters, Catherine Alred and Susan Howell; her grandson, Thomas Howell; and her sister, Suzanne Condello. Mary's daughters wish to thank Vitas Hospice, specifically Lisa and Sherry for their wonderful care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707, on November 5, 2020 at 11:30 A.M. Burial will be held privately.
