Berster, Jr.
October 27, 1935 – June 27, 2024
Martin G. Berster, Jr., 88, of Georgetown, Delaware passed away on June 27, 2024 at Delaware Hospice, in Milford, Delaware. Martin was born in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of the late Mary Berster (Pollinger) and Martin G. Berster, Sr.
On November 03, 1956, he married his beloved wife, Elinor Gott. Together, they celebrated over 67 wonderful years of marriage and raised three children.
Martin retired as a truck driver for the 7UP Company in Claymont, Delaware after over 30 years and was a member of the Teamsters Union followed by his second career of 15 years with Brooks Courier Service in Wilmington, Delaware. He moved to Holiday, Florida and resided with his wife there for over 10 years.
In his earlier years, Martin was an avid bowler with the Holy Name League of St. Thomas, golfer, and boater, enjoying his many fishing outings and crabbing trips. He loved the thrill of watching the horse races and participated in harness racing as an owner and trainer. He was a former parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Wilmington, DE.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is also survived by his children, daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Peter Madrigal of Lexington Park, MD; his son and daughter-in-law Gerald and Carla Berster of Wilmington, DE; his grandchildren, Peter, Kelsey, Max, and Anna; his brothers John Berster (Joanne) and Francis Berster (Carol) and a sister, Mary Anne Fisher (Ralph Wike). Martin was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
In addition to his parents, Martin was preceded in death by his son, Martin G. Berster, III, and his sister, Clarissa M. Booth.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 followed by a funeral service at 11:00AM. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Martin G. Berster, Jr. be made to: Delaware Hospice. Online condolences can be made by visiting mealeyfuneralhomes.com.
