Mark Sweeney Sr., age 68, of Wilmington and Longneck DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.

Mark was born in Wilmington to George and Teresa Sweeney. He was in the first graduating class from St. Mark's High School in 1973. After high school, he was a lifeguard in Ocean City, MD before he received a call that he was accepted into the IBEW Local 313. He worked tirelessly there, mostly for Furness Electric, until he retired in 2016.

After retiring, the family bought their beach home in Longneck Village, a place that he loved and where he was always ready to pick up a fishing rod with friends and family. When cold weather came around, he would go hunting with his sons and buddies either in Troy, PA or Singlehouse, PA.

Mark was the greatest husband, father, and friend. He was always there without hesitation, whenever anyone needed help.

Mark will be truly missed by his wife of 39 years, Jeanne Wright Sweeney, whom he met in 1st grade at St. Paul's; his two sons Mark Jr. (Emily) and Matthew, who were his everything; his sisters Mayann Fischer (Bob), Susan Weisman (Bruce), and Sharon Sweeney Dauphin (John), who helped take wonderful care of him throughout his illness; and countless family and friends.

Services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mark's name to Longneck Village HOA, 25878 Starboard Dr, Millsboro, DE 19966, to support the community he loved so dearly.
