Mark Andrew
Lyons
December 18, 1973 – December 26, 2023
Mark Andrew Lyons, age 50, of Wilmington, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023.
Mark was born in Wilmington, son of George K. Lyons Jr. and the late Sharon G. (Graefe) Lyons. Mark graduated from St. Marks high school and received his Bachelors in Education from the University of Delaware and his Masters in Education from Wilmington University. Mark became a Math and Science teacher at Newark Charter before transferring to Maclary Elementary School. His true passion was coaching swimming, and he was a proud coach of hundreds of local swimmers. In his free time, Mark loved the outdoors, whether it was hiking in the mountains or being near the water. Mark loved spending time on the beach and watching the sun set. He grew up crabbing in Annapolis with his family and loved to teach people how to properly pick a crab. Mark was a sports fan of both the Philadelphia Eagles and Boston Red Sox. However, his ultimate love was for his family and his two daughters.
Mark is survived by his daughters, Ella Jewell and Abigail Catherine Lyons; father, George "Ken" Lyons Jr. (Beth); brothers, Christopher (Stephanie) and George K. Lyons III (Laurie); nieces, Audrey and Allie; nephews, Jack, Lucas, and Jacob; and numerous family friends whom he all loved.
A visitation for Mark will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may call from 10am-12pm, with a memorial service following at 12pm. Burial will be held privately.
